At some point in your life, staying ready kept you safe. Something happened, maybe a lot of somethings, and your nervous system learned that the best way to survive was to never be caught off guard. So you got really good at it. You learned how to stabilize fast, how to keep functioning when things got hard, how to hold it together before it had a chance to break.
And that was smart. That was genuinely you taking care of yourself the best way you knew how at the time.
The woman who handles it. The one who’s fine. The one who doesn’t need much.
The exhaustion you feel isn’t weakness, it’s your body sending up a flare because it has been standing guard for so long it genuinely doesn’t remember what it feels like to stand down.
More resilience is not going to fix this, come on now. You don’t need to get stronger, you have been strong enough for long enough and I think some part of you already knows that.
I know this particular flavor of exhaustion because I lived in it. I was spiritually evolved, doing the work, and simultaneously white-knuckling my way through my marriage and my life because my nervous system had no idea the emergency was over. Turns out you can know something is healed and still be running the old survival program in the background. Fun discovery. Would not recommend.
